The Effects of Experimental Testicular Torsion on Contralateral Testis in Rats

Abstract
The histologic effect of unilateral torsion on the contralateral testis in adult Sprague Dawley rats was experimented. Utilizing detorsion or orchiectomy at 2, 4, 6, and 24 hours after torsion, the effect of early or late treatment and the method
of
treatment were reviewed. Pathologic changes in the contralateral testis were found to be dependent on the duration of spermatic cord torsion but were less severe in the orchiectomized group.
Conclusively, unilateral testicular torsion induces the contralateral testicular histopathologic changes and its degree was dependent on duration of torsion, method of treatment and the presence or absence of retained injure testis.
